My travel Diary: Cambridge

My travel Diary: Cambridge

It didn’t occur to me that I visit London quite a lot until the woman at the passport control kindly asked me if I was ready to switch my passport (from American to England).

I’d tell you how many times i’ve been, but I’m afraid you’d judge me. Needless to say, I love the place. The history, the British Accent, the architecture… should I keep going? The place is beautiful. All the time i’ve spent in England, I did not know that it had more to offer. Recently, a very dear friend of mine asked me if I ever visited Cambridge. “Cambridge? Where is that?” I said to myself. I asked Siri to google it and boy was I blown away. Two weeks later, I was in line at JFK International airport scanning my boarding pass on my way to Cambridge. I can write a thousand words trying to describe the low-key, mind blowing little place to you, but it wouldn’t be enough. However, I will do this; I will give you some reasons why you should visit Cambridge.

  1. One of the top Universities- This place is a must see- University Of Cambridge. It is the centerpiece of Cambridge. Housing 31 autonomous colleges. Some of the most prestige writers, actors, and politicians are products of this university. The architecture makes it one of a kind. Founded in 1209, 800 years later it looks fresher than ever.

  2. SHOPPING- I am a mall fanatic. Not a shopaholic, but a mall fanatic. Unfortunately, the mall was not what took my breath away- the market did. The Cambridge market should be on top of your list. It’s your one stop shop for souvenirs, jewelry, fresh groceries, you name it they have it. What makes it even better is that it’s open 7 days a week.

  3. Punting on the river Cam- If you don’t do anything in Cambridge, please promise me you will do this. IT’S A MUST.  Punting on the river is sitting in a long flat-bottomed boat while the punter pushes against the river bed with a pole. I was so impressed by the history of that river that I missed half of the information the punter shared. I do have to say, the guides are very knowledgeable and funny.

  4. Food- Tell me who wouldn’t want to eat like a king. That’s all I have to say!

  5. The greenery- There’s a significant connection between human and nature that is very important ( at least to me it is). If you have not experience such thing, Cambridge will definitely give that to you. The Cambridge Botanical Garden is to die for. I was amazed to see the amount of people relaxing on the grass, reading, having a human experience. It was definitely not  my everyday scenery.

  6. Cow grazing- I’m very familiar with seeing cows graze. I’ve seen many when I travel from Miami to orlando to see my uncle, or Port saint Lucie to see my aunt. However, I’ve never seen that breed and most certainly never woke up to them in my backyard. I stayed at a beautiful home on the countryside. The owner of the house had 2 beautiful, rare, affable cows. Off course I did not engage with them. They were just beautiful to look at. They added to the experience of being in cambridge.

  7. Country like- Cambridge is small, quiet, and very cozy. Everything seemed eco friendly. Starting with the politeness of the people to the architecture. If you wanna go cycling and for long walks, Cambridge is definitely your place to go.

Have you visited England? If yes, which part? I’d love to hear of your experience. If you haven’t I think Cambridge is worth visiting. Comment below, let me know what you think. Also, Don’t forget to subscribe.
