Self Improvement

“When I let go of what I am, I become what I might be” Lao Tzu
I stumbled upon a question in my inbox recently that forced me to create this blog entry. In parentheses, thank you to all of you who often sends me emails and direct messages. I appreciate you greatly! Someone wrote, “ what motivated you to move to New York City”. This was not the first time this question was asked, I am sure it will not be the last. Truthfully, I had to find out what was in me. I couldn't bear the possibilities of BECOMING. It was a selfish decision to obtain the process of my metamorphosis. The Dichotomy of my Miami world and that which was before me in NYC ignite the fire to produce this transfigured individual I have become. Would I do it all over again? Without a doubt. Self improvement is the topic of our discussion today. Let’s dive in.
It’s no secret by now that I am an advocate for self care. Whether it’s physical, spiritual or mental every part of us counts. I believe in the trinity of the self. Every dimension has to be in harmony to obtain the best result possible. However, The reality of it is that we all struggle at some level of self care. So how does one improve him or herself? I’m glad you asked. Before I answer your question, may I ask you a question? Whatever your response is, I promise I’ll keep this to myself. What was the title of the last book you read? The last book I read was “ The Power of Your Subconscious Mind” By Joseph Murphy- Great read by the way. Check it out.
Let’s go back five years prior to today. Matter of fact, two years ago. How different are you from two years ago? What are you doing today that you weren’t doing two years ago? I want you to take a close look at your habits, your daily routines and surroundings. Have you settled? Could it be that you’re content with not giving your best? Self- improvement starts the minute you realize that there’s something that needs to be modified. It can be your status, character or knowledge. It can even be physical, spiritual or mental. What matters most is that you recognize the need for a change. My father once told me, if you have a secret to hide, hide it in a book. People will never find it because people don’t like to read. So I decided to do the opposite. I started reading, searching for hidden secrets. I am pleased to say, what I've found so far has got me on a good path. I’ve found that any change starts first in the mind before it can be manifested in real life. Therefore, what you allow to occupy your mind has a direct effect on your life. If you want to improve your life, you must first improve your mind. I encourage you to read more. Start with a genre you enjoy. Then, challenge yourself to read on current events. Maybe take it a step further and read something that will motivate you to see the world from a different perspective. Whatever you do, don’t forget to read. NOW, I don’t want you to start reading garbage. I am begging you, Please be very selective.
I challenged my story the day I decided to move to New York City. Did I know exactly what the outcome was going to be? Absolutely not. However, Miami was just a perspective of truth, I wanted to find a different truth. I felt the need to create a new narrative. And so I did. You too have the power to do so. The end of the year is approaching. I think it’s the perfect time to press the reset button. Reinvent yourself, your thoughts, as well as your actions. Keep in mind growth is a process. Don’t give up. I would love to hear about your self-improvement, especially what book you are reading or plan on reading. Please comment below and subscribe for more updates.
