A year in review: 5 things I've learned in 2022

I can’t believe it’s 2023! Someone please pinch me!!! It felt like I was just wishing my friends and family a happy new year a few weeks ago (2022). Is it me or the years get shorter as you get older? Or maybe because my toddler has mastered the art of wearing me out; as a result, well let me not even go there with you … Whichever one it is, here we are again wishing each other a happy new year! My prayer for you this year is for God to grant you the courage to be your full self unapologetically. May you prioritize your happiness above all else. Happy New Year my dear!

Now that I have your attention, tell me a little bit about your holidays ? I hope that the holidays brought you laughter and plenty of rest. Feel free to comment below, I’d love to hear how you spent your time with friends and family. As for me, I decided to stay home this year. My family and I spent some quality time together. Just the thought of it brings me joy. In all honesty, I have to admit, this year was incredible in many ways (THANK GOD). I grew closer to God, experienced some of the most heartfelt moments with my family, traveled, invested, and learned a whole lot. Some of which I'd love to share with you. Here are the top 5 things I’ve learned from 2022:

  1. Have a grateful heart- appreciate what you have POINT BLANK! Show some gratitude for a change. If we are going to keep it 100, God really didn't HAVE TO give you anything. That family you have, the job, the house or apartment, the car you drive, none of it. I encourage you to Give thanks more than you ask. It seems as if God blesses me with more the more I thank him for the things I have. I’m also learning to do this with those within my circle. Please and thank you were embedded in my daily communication in 2022. You’d be surprised, a little appreciation goes a long way.

  2. Reload- I’ve learned this the hard way but I finally got it! I’ve learned that I need to be the best version of myself in order to show up for those around me, especially my son. I cannot stress enough how important it is for one to take time to reboot! Whatever “reload” may be to you, do it! Reloading can mean taking a vacation, staycation, taking 30 minutes out of your day for yourself, a long bath, a walk in the park, journaling, praying, meditating- whatever helps you, I encourage you to practice it.

  3. Motherhood is personal- OK, Let’s unpack this! There’s a level of uncertainty, fear, anxiety, emotional instability that comes with transitioning into motherhood that women don’t talk about. And if they do, I must not be hanging out with the ones who speak on it. What I have heard is that “Motherhood is beautiful”. I won’t dare to take any credit away from such statement because it is beautiful. However, I’ve realized that the beauty they speak of is very personal. Every mother experiences this form of beauty in their own way.  It’s not one that can be explained or expressed.  It’s a feeling, a reason for living, an unbreakable bond. It’s agape love. It’s personal. I can write a book about motherhood.  At the very least, my experience thus far as a mother and still could not make you feel every second I've felt so far.

  4. Some people will be left in 2022- I’m at a place in my life where I’ve made peace with the reality that some people are seasonal. Not everyone is destined to go to the end with me and that's ok. The one thing I am practicing heavily in 2023 is letting go of anything and anyone that doesn't serve any purpose in my life. I highly encourage you to do the same. Take inventory, go through your contact list, your IG followers, Facebook friend list- You’d be surprise of how many “None Mother*** factors” you have just hanging around for no real reason. GET RID OF THEM ALL. Leave them in 2022.

5. Keep your foot on the gas pedal-  So many things happened in 2022. Some good, some bad but none of them was able to stop me from waking up and showing up. I definitely want to keep the same spirit going into this new year. No matter what life throws at you, I encourage you to keep moving. I know it’s easier said than done, but I challenge you to never give up.

Cheers to another new year. I’m expecting great things to happen this year for you and I. I’m talking about things that eyes have not seen nor ears have not heard. On the other hand, Let’s recap, how was your 2022?  Tell me about the good, the bad, and the ugly. I want to hear all about it. Don’t forget to share some of the things you’ve learned in 2022 with me.  Comment and subscribe below.
