Mental Health

If you are like me, you are drowning in boredom during this COVID-19 Pandemic season. I truly believe that this was designed to teach us to appreciate human connection, and most importantly health. I often say health is taken for granted until it’s your health.
Whether you choose to believe that statement or not, I firmly stand behind it. I don’t know one person who enjoys being sick. If you do, I suggest you see a psychologist. To prove my point, everyone is wearing a face mask and gloves to prevent themselves from getting contaminated by this deadly virus. Rightfully so, I think it’s imperative to educate yourself from the right source of information, and take proper precautions during this period of time. On the other hand, we are still stuck between the walls. I used to drag the excuse of not having time to do anything. Now, all I have is time.
While we are taking great measures to avoid getting contaminated by the Coronavirus, we must also take care of our mental health. I’ve blogged about social health before, I often shine light on the importance of self care, but what about our mental health? It’s no secret that our lives have changed drastically in a blink of an eye. One thing I know for sure, humans don’t do well with change. In the process of change, our mental health is often the first thing challenged. We become uncomfortable, stress and panic. Hey, we are humans. It’s part of our nature to respond like that in times of uncertainty. However, I believe we have the ability to cope with our situation. I’d love to share some things with you that may help during this challenging time.

Devotion- This has always been a part of my routine. There’s nothing more beautiful than sacred time between the creator and his creation. I shy away from checking my phone first thing in the morning. Instead, I’ll pray, listen to a sermon, or songs of worship. I encourage you to try it out. We are at a time that calls for prayer. I think it’s wise to turn to our creator, acknowledge him and allow him to take control over this situation.
Meditation- This is something I often practice. The act of being present, allowing myself to feel, or becoming one with the spiritual part of me is crucial. Meditation creates peace in time of confusion- if executed properly. I think it’s a natural Antidepressant. Try it out.
Reading- One of the many things I enjoy doing! Check this out, I love having a hard copy book that I can highlight the hell out of. There’s nothing better than flipping the pages of a well written book. However, I am slowly falling in love with audio books. I’m able to read a book in two days. NO, I AM NOT KIDDING! You should try it. Especially now.
The Add-ons
Working a 9-5 requires a great deal from us. Unfortunately, we have to work to keep a roof over our head. Now that we are forced to take time off (this was not by choice), I would encourage you to create a plan of action. I trust that, at the end of this pandemic, we will become better.
A financial plan for the next 5-10 years. Short term and long term Goals
Attend to any projects you’ve put off for the past twelve months.
Take an online course. I think this is the best time to learn about trades, stocks or how to start a business.
Research the next place you want to visit.
Focus on you! Your passions, your health ( physical, emotional and mental) your wants, your needs, your goals!
YOU BETTER KNOW WHO YOU ARE!
