Our First Round Table
“This is the day that the Lord has made, we will be glad and rejoice in it” Psalm 118:24
Ten months later… And we are here! Something that started as a casual conversation has transformed to a forum. If you did not know, Unfiltered Soles had its first round table on December 7, 2019. A total of 25 people gathered at Cecil Steakhouse/lounge that evening. We played, talked and ate together. I can’t give you all the details of the event, but I will share some highlights with you. First of all, let’s unpack the fact that 25 PEOPLE SHOWED UP! To some of you, that may be a very small number. However, given that this was the first event, on a Saturday night, and in NYC where people can be at 80 other places; I think 25 is a perfect start. Also, I am a big believer of being faithful to small, so I can be trusted with more. I’d like to give a big round of applause to each individual who made this event a priority on their list that night. A simple thank you is not enough. I am beyond grateful for your support! Part One:
I’ve attended a few events where I felt like I could have enjoyed myself a little more if I engaged with the crowd. Those of you who know me, know that I am all about human connection. Therefore, It was no surprise that the first part of the event was a game. A game which was designed to encourage everyone to think, to speak, and to learn from one another. Allow me to be completely honest with you, I was moved by the response of the crowd. I’m talking about mind blowing responses.
Part Two:
This part of the event was my favorite. I thought it’d be a great idea to talk about a subject that was relevant. A topic that the audience would be passionate about. Therefore, I chose a topic that tied into religion, culture, relationships, languages etc…To say the least, it was fascinating to capture the different psychologies that overwhelmed the room. Nothing was left on the surface. We dived ten feet deep into each title. I was mesmerized for lack of better words.
Part Three:
Unfortunately we did not get to this part. Part two was so powerful, so earth shaking and thought provoking that we ran out of time. Part three was designed to set three goals for 2020. The whole idea behind that was to set goals for 2020. December 2020, at the next round table, I wanted to revisit each individual’s goals at the beginning of the event. I am not upset that we didn’t get to it. There is always a next time.
Food
The ticket to the event was $50 dollars. Included in each ticket was a three course meal and soft drinks. If anyone wanted alcohol, they were able to open a different tab. The food was good, so were the drinks. I just wished it was Haitian food.
All in all, It was an absolute success. I thank God for the kind of outcome he provided. I received some great feedback about the first round table. So much so that I will grant the request of those who wished to have one in the summer. A date has not been set yet. However, as soon as I select one I will announce it. So tell me, have you ever attended a round table before? Let me know through comments and don’t forget to subscribe for more updates.
